Ebook About
Is it possible to heal by thought alone—without drugs or surgery? The truth is that it happens more often than you might expect. In You Are the Placebo, Dr. Joe Dispenza shares numerous documented cases of those who reversed cancer, heart disease, depression, crippling arthritis, and even the tremors of Parkinson’s disease by believing in a placebo. Similarly, Dr. Joe tells of how others have gotten sick and even died the victims of a hex or voodoo curse—or after being misdiagnosed with a fatal illness. Belief can be so strong that pharmaceutical companies use double- and triple-blind randomized studies to try to exclude the power of the mind over the body when evaluating new drugs.Dr. Joe does more than simply explore the history and the physiology of the placebo effect. He asks the question: “Is it possible to teach the principles of the placebo, and without relying on any external substance, produce the same internal changes in a person’s health and ultimately in his or her life?” Then he shares scientific evidence (including color brain scans) of amazing healings from his workshops, in which participants learn his model of personal transformation, based on practical applications of the so-called placebo effect. The book ends with a “how-to” meditation for changing beliefs and perceptions that hold us back—the first step in healing. You Are the Placebo combines the latest research in neuroscience, biology, psychology, hypnosis, behavioral conditioning, and quantum physics to demystify the workings of the placebo effect . . . and show how the seemingly impossible can become possible.

Book You Are the Placebo: Making Your Mind Matter Review :

I do appreciate the point of view that "I" am the placebo--not a medical practitioner, not a "healer," not a god-force, etc. It was a bit different slant on an old theme. I found the book easy to read and an unusual patchwork of previously expressed ideas. I have found in my own journey that I have a great deal more power to transform my life than I grew up believing was possible. So I agree wholeheartedly with one of Dr. Dispenza's final comments that we can overcome our own self-imposed limitations. However, for me, a disability rights advocate and educator and a person who has lived with life-long chronic illness, there is an important element missing. Those of us with disabling conditions are learning that we are not defective nor must we be cured of our conditions to have a life that has value. In fact, my experience has been that everything I used to think was "wrong" with me has turned out to be what's right about it. My illness has taught me how to live creatively and effectively in ways that perfect health never could have. And yes, I continue to consider approaches to improving my health, as my reading this book suggests, but I do it from a place of self-acceptance now rather than a belief that finding a cure is the only valid outcome to my exploration. The author doesn't express such a view, but my decades of work in the disability arena have shown me that most people still consider disability to be a tragedy and some believe it is a fate worse than death and use that as the lens through which they would read a book such as this. I really like the Japanese concept of "wabi-sabi" which is about finding perfection in imperfection. Positive thinking, affirmations, meditation, hypnosis, guided imagery, and self-belief have not cured me, but they have been helpful tools in learning to stay in present time and not worry about where my illness is "going." So I do appreciate the meditation scripts that the author offers. I would just like to suggest to anyone who tries the meditation and continues to have a disability or illness: look for the opportunity in your circumstance. You may be amazed at what it offers you.
I have a chronic blood cancer, and I'm fairly young. I've suffered challenges along the way and I've arranged some aspects of my life around it to reduce those problems again. After discussing this journey of mine with people, someone solicited that I could cure my cancer, and I should read this book. I read the back of this book and thought, worth a shot. I'm aware of the effects of placebo in control studies since I read clinical trials and medical journals centered around my cancer to help better understand it, thus manage it.Now, if I read this book and adopted its knowledge suggestions and material to the best of my ability, and told you it did not cure my cancer, should I blame the author, or myself? The answer is myself. Because if you look closely, Dispenza offers no actual cure for any specific disease or illness. He only offers you a massive index of case studies, stories and some science outside of them to explain it may be possible using just your mind. Is it possible? To what, cure my cancer that is internationally defined as medically incurable? Sure! Is it also not possible? Sure! This is the problem I have with this book. It can disillusion readers or his followers into thinking he has prescribed an answer to cure any health problem or disease associated in one of his stories or case studies such as cancer, depression and the list goes on. It's tempting and easy to associate his suggestions and arrangements of stories as being curative without truly understanding how those people in those specific scenarios were actually cured. Were they simply psychosomatic to begin with, or was there something else going on that coincided with it? Was there just something special on a cellular level we'll never know, placebo-induced or otherwise? There is no real understanding of epigenetics or how thought-based cellular changes work in a prescriptive manner. It’s out of our grasp presently. We know it’s possible, and I feel that’s all this book will provide you and you should be careful. The silver lining can be the interesting science (some of it), and the fuel to its reader that leaning on the positive is healthier. But this is evidence-based. It's understood, documented and even felt. Much like a shrink may tell you that your past does not define your future. These are all true and the results clear. If Dispenza actually prescribed a real, evidence-based solution to cure cancer and all the health problems described in his stories, he would be the modern-day Jesus. And better yet, if he was able to share how, we’d end disease, never age and perhaps live forever in our perpetually thought-based curable methods. I caution the buyer to read the back of his book, and judge clearly how he simply escapes owning anything he writes. May you find good health in your future.
